  • "We never think about it, but these snapshots are our little stand against the flow of time.  The shutter clicked. Flash goes off. and they stop time. Just for the blink of an eye....and if these pictures have anything important to say to future generations...it's this:  I was here. I existed. I was young, I was happy, and someone cared enough about me in this world...to take my picture."  -  One Hour Photo

I love pictures.  That's why I never take them.  I believe entropy is the natural state of the universe.  Our existence is nothing more than little sand castles on the shores of time, waiting to be unmade.  Sad?  Yes.  But heroic in a way.  Our linear, finite lives is the truth of our existence.  (Captain Sisko).  Some of us try to avoid that truth, we try to prolong life, to gain immortality through our children, our writings, our photographs.   Life is so wonderful, we just can't believe that one day, we will be gone.

Thus every photograph is precious to me.  They are heroic stands against time.  Heroic, but ultimately futile.  My OC personality is made for photography.  Ah, to be able to make order out of chaos, the very thought gives me peace.  I know that if I ever purchase a digital camera, I will be looking at the world through my camera for the rest of my life.  I don't want that.

Photographs are an illusion.  A powerful symbol of our heroic struggle against entropy, but still just an illusion.

P.S.  When I have kids, all bets are off.

  • A lot of people only think they are shy, but secretly, there is an exhibitionist waiting to get out!  I was a fairly shy person in elementry school.  But in High School I joined debate and it really expanded my public speaking abilities.  A lot of Asians are not naturally shy.  We were taught as kids to be respectful to our elders, which meant silence.  As a Mulan fan you probably have some personal insight into this as well.

You may find that once you join debate you are not shy afterall; that you actually enjoy public attention.  I think part of the reason I became a lawyer was because my mother never allowed me to finish a sentence before cutting me off.  Yup.  Now that I'm a lawyer, people HAVE to listen to me, or else they are wasting their $200/h.

Opps.  This is about you.  In HS, take debate.  In college, I think a English/Econ double major is the best preparation for law school.  Law school is really, really hard.  Read "1L" and watch "The Paper Chase" to get a glimpse of what law school is like.  Good luck!

  • ehh, im half way through high schoool .. im going to be a junior in high school in a couple of months. don't really think i have any more room in my schedules for any debate classes .. i hope i still have a chance at it, when im in college? what do you think? i think the reason why i want to be a lawyer is because i just recently watch this lawyer movie, about how this lawyer goes around and helped the innocent and the poor and it really influenced me into becoming one. I would like to help the innocent and the poor also .. but i think im just going to minor in law, and major in pediatric .. i really dont know yet =/ , thanks for the advice though!

  • thanks for ur input =)

photos are a way of freezing a moment in time there greatttt! it captures what teh midn doesnt, yet not what teh heart remembers..

  • Well see...money is a TOTALLY different issue. I was talking about being lonely...then anyone who talks to you is your friend. But if you're holding the bill, and everyone is looking at you expectantly, those people are now your "aquaintences"...and cheap ones, at that.

    :D

  • hey it would be nice to become friends with you, i can discuss "law" and stuff with you and get familar to it, and know what im getting into!

  • maybe you can give me some advice, and teach me a thing or two

  • Ah, the late night "lets get drunk" phone calls... I could have sworn most men live for those, especially if the culprit happened to be a woman?!? =)
I received a call at 11:30pm last night which incorporated ALL of my pet peeves regarding phone etiquette, hence prompting me to write such a belligerent-toned entry... Come to think about it, I'm still pretty heated... blah!

  • yep wireless networkin' is fabulous...just fabulous!

I like that.  I like that a lot.  (read: I'm going to steal that).

    Hmmm... was this lawyer movie:

    1.  The Rainmaker or 2. Erin Brokovich or 3. A Civil Action?

They are great movies, and the Rainmaker and A Civil Action (book) are the main reasons that motivated me to go to law school.

If you are deciding between becoming a pediatrician and a lawyer, then it is better to plan your college years around the pre-med curriculum.  There are tons of requirements for med school, but only one for law school (LSAT, a funner version of the SATs without the vocab section).  Pre-meds can easily switch to law school, but pre-laws can never switch to pre-med due to the requirements (O-chem killed my pre-med ambitions).
